Obituary Condolences

Loralee K. Moon 1967 - 2012 PITTSFIELD Loralee K. Moon, 44, of 108 Summer St. Pittsfield, passed away Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, at Bay State Medical in Springfield after a valiant battle with cancer. Our caring, generous and compassionate girl will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Loralee was a loving person who considered everyone she met to be her friend and never spoke an unkind word about anyone. Born on Aug. 25, 1967, she was the daughter of Irving and Donna Viens Moon of Pittsfield. Educated in Pittsfield schools, she was a 1985 graduate of Taconic High School. She worked at Verizon for a number of years and obtained her Bachelor's Degree from MCLA in North Adams while working. Then, she attended Goddard College in Plainfield, VT where she earned a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Creative Writing. In 2011 she received a Master of Education Degree, also from MCLA. An educator, she most recently worked as a substitute teacher for the Pittsfield public school system. She enjoyed books and learning, spending time with her family, and was a good friend to everyone she knew. Besides her parents, she leaves her step-mother, Dorothy Moon of Pittsfield; two brothers, Lawrence Moon of North Adams and Daniel Moon and his wife, Angela, of Pittsfield. She also leaves her beloved nieces, Sarah and Abby Moon, step-brothers, William and John Dearstyne, and stepsisters, Maryellen, Joanne and Melissa and their families. Loralee's family would like to express their special thanks to Kris Rogers for all her special care, compassion, and kindness shown to Loralee throughout her illness. We also appreciate her caregiver's efforts and that of her many friends' efforts during this trying period of her life. FUNERAL NOTICE: Calling hours will be held Monday from 4 to 7 PM at the DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield. A Memorial service for Loralee will be held Tuesday at 11 AM at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Hannah P. Anderson, rector. Memorial donations in her name may be made to Bay State Medical Center Cancer Research or to St. Stephen's Church, both in care of the Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, MA 01201.
