Louis N. Pannozzo 1932 - 2012 BECKET Louis N. Pannozzo, 79, 125 Wells Rd., passed away Monday afternoon at home after a courageous and heroic battle with ALS, Lou Gehrig's disease. Born in Pittsfield on Aug. 28, 1932, son of Antonio and Antonina Carnevale Pannozzo, he was a graduate of Pittsfield High School and attended Berkshire Community College. He served in the Navy from February 1950 until his discharge in July 1953. Louis served as a member of the Pittsfield Fire Department for 25 years. He took great pleasure in spending time with his family, building his home, attending Saratoga Racetrack and the Red Sox and Chicago Cubs baseball. He married the former Shirley Katherine Robinson on October 11, 1957 at Sacred Heart Church in Pittsfield. Louis felt the firm embrace of family and friends near and far who comprised his loving support team during his illness. He would want to convey to each of them his profound gratitude. Louis was a remarkably dedicated husband and father. Survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, "Shirley," and his six children, Sharon Pannozzo of New York, NY, Katherine Applegate and her husband David of St. John, IN, Antonio "Tony" Pannozzo of Waltham, Susan Salerno and her husband Michael of Lexington, Paul Pannozzo of Raleigh, NC, Nancy Pannozzo of Bedford, and eight grandchildren. He leaves a brother, Anthony Pannozzo of Plymouth. Louis was predeceased by his brothers, Achilles, John, and Dominic Pannozzo. He also leaves several nephews and nieces. FUNERAL NOTICE: A funeral mass for Louis N. Pannozzo will be held Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church with Father James Joyce officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at the WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME. Donations in his memory may be made to the ALS Association or to the Pittsfield Firefighter's Association, care of the funeral home, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201. Louis's family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Christopher Trancynger, Dr. Daniel Doyle, Joshua Morin, Lisa Soule, Sherri Meissner, Denise Langevin, Dennis DeNoyers and the wonderful staff at Berkshire Medical Center.
