1920-2012 Margaret Cecelia Fitch, 92, of Ashley Falls, passed away peacefully August 21, 2012, at the Great Barrington Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

Margaret was born May 6, 1920, in Bridgeport, Conn., the daughter of the late James and Helen Foley. She moved to Canaan as a child and graduated from Canaan High School.

In her younger days, she loved to roller skate and was the star of the girls' basketball team.

Margaret was married to the late Richard H. Fitch and they raised their three children on the Fitch farm on Rannapo Road in Ashley Falls. After the sale of the farm, they moved to Ashley Falls Road.

She worked at Sheffield Pottery, and then at BD in Canaan for 20 years until her retirement.

Margaret was a loving wife and mother. She was a kind-hearted soul who loved animals and children, and was always willing to help someone in need. She was a feisty lady who enjoyed games, gambling, puzzles and cards, and was affectionately known as "The Candy Lady."

She is survived by her children, Marilyn Fitch, Richard Fitch and his wife Elaine, and Peggy Fitch, along with her grandchildren, Jocelyn Bisson and her husband Jay, Matthew Fitch and his wife Amanda, Benjamin Fitch and his wife Bethany, and Melinda Melendez.

She is additionally survived by her sister, Rita Blodgett, her nephew Bill Clark, her six great grandchildren, and many other nieces and nephews.

Margaret is predeceased by her sisters Roberta Fallon and Mary Bushey.

She will be interred in the family plot at Mountain View Cemetery. The family will hold a private memorial. No donations, no flowers, please.
