Margaret E. Durkin Gore

1918-2013 PITTSFIELD Margaret E. Durkin Gore, age 95, of Berkshire Place, 89 South St. peacefully passed away on Sunday morning. She was a longtime resident of 58 Oxford St. Mrs. Gore was born in Seattle, Wash., Sept. 12, 1918, the daughter of the late John and Delia Smith Durkin. She and her family moved to Massachusetts as a young girl where she attended the schools in Worcester. A 1936 graduate of Ascension High School there, she became a Principals aide in the Worcester School System. In 1940, she became the office manager of the Holy Family League of Charity which was affiliated with both Brightside in Holyoke and the Worcester orphanage. She came to Pittsfield the following year in order to establish an office for the League of Charity in Berkshire County. She also served as the office manager and director of Volunteers' Guild in both Berkshire County and the Connecticut Valley. A communicant of St. Mark's Church, she was a member of its Rosary Society. She and her husband, the late Daniel B. Gore, who died, Aug. 18, 2000, were married July 21, 1956 in St. Jerome's Church in Holyoke. She is survived by her nephew, John Gray; and her two nieces, Mrs. Winifred LaVigne and Mrs. Shirley Allen, all of Tucson, Ariz., as well as her family friend and god-daughter, Mrs. Maryjane E. Scoco and her husband, Mark L. Scoco of Pittsfield and their children, Josh, Laura and Sara. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral Services will be held Thursday morning at 8:15 a.m., from the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME followed with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Mark's Church. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday afternoon from 4 to 6 p.m. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. If friends desire, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home.
