Maria Theresa Gasbarrone 1919-2011 AUGUSTA, MAINE Maria Theresa "Mary" Gasbarrone, age 91, of Ridge Road, died December 16, 2011 after a brief illness. She was born in Pittsfield, on December 27, 1919, the daughter of Paul and Angelina Livornia Morsello. Mary was a 1938 graduate of Pittsfield High School. She continued her education at Saint Luke's School of Nursing in Pittsfield, where she received her degree as a Registered Nurse. She later received an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Development from the University of Maine at Augusta. Mary was employed as a nursing supervisor at the nursing home at Gray Birch Drive for 16 years. She was previously employed for several years by KVCAP as Medical Director in the Head Start Program, and served as Public Health Nurse for the City of Augusta. She was a devoted and accomplished professional who loved every aspect of her varied nursing career. Mary was a communicant of Saint Michael Parish at Saint Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Augusta, where she served on the Parish Council. She was a former member of the Women's Club of Pittsfield. Mary was a life-long volunteer at church, school, and community activities. She was an excellent bridge player who loved reading, gardening, golf, and doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She enjoyed traveling to Europe with her husband, children, and sisters, including trips to the Oberammergau Passion Plays. Mary was also a life-long fan of Notre Dame football and several pro football teams. During her retirement, Mary enjoyed long walks with friend Phyllis Mazzota-Wicks, and frequent day trips to the villages and harbors of the Maine coast. Her husband, Marco A. Gasbarrone, died in 1972. She was predeceased by a son, Marco Gasbarrone, in 1955. Surviving are; a son, Joseph Gasbarrone and his wife Denise of Rochester, N.Y.; two daughters: Maria Connors of Lanesborough, and Lisa Gasbarrone and her husband Joseph Jucewicz of Lancaster, Pa.; three sisters: Frances Healy of Lenox, Josephine Tristany and Pauline Asher of Pittsfield, five grandchildren: Marco Gasbarrone and his wife Katie, Megan Gasbarrone, Angela Hanke and her husband Brian, Michael Connors, and Marya Jucewicz; four great-grandchildren: Mallary and Benjamin Hanke, Cameron and Annabelle Gasbarrone; and several nieces and nephews. Her granddaughter Angela was a special comfort to her in her final days. Mary was devoted to her family, and all were nurtured by her warmth, strength, and generous spirit. FUNERAL NOTICE: Visiting hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, December 20th at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant Street, Augusta.
