Marion Jasik Maruk 1928 - 2012 WILMINGTON, MA Marion Jasik Maruk, 83, a former longtime resident of Pittsfield, died Friday, January 27, 2012, at Woodbriar of Wilmington, where she had resided since 2009. Born in Pittsfield on April 6, 1928, she was the youngest daughter of Max and Anna Huska Jasik. As a youngster she played the balalaika in a church group and had an interest in becoming a Russian interpreter. She was a 1946 graduate of Pittsfield High School and a 1948 graduate of Pittsfield Secretarial School. Primarily a homemaker, Mrs. Maruk had, at one time, worked as a sales associate in a catalog office for a discount store, and had been employed as an expeditor at General Electric Company. She was a longtime member of the Girls League and the YMCA where she was an advisor to the teenage clubs there. She had been a member of the Rainbow Girls. Among her many interests were growing houseplants, shopping, traveling, and collecting milk glass. She also enjoyed bowling, both small and large ball. Mrs. Maruk was devoted to her husband and children, and had a close relationship with her sisters and their families. Her husband, Peter Maruk, whom she married February 11, 1950, in St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church, died August 8, 2007. Mrs. Maruk is survived by a daughter, Kathryn Ann Maruk of Reading, Mass.; two sisters, Olga J. Zaiken of Westfield, and Lillian J. Barch of Hudson, NH, and several nieces and nephews. Her son, Peter Michael Maruk died in 1998. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Marion Jasik Maruk will be held Thursday, February 2, at 11:00 a.m., at DERY FUNERAL HOME with the Rev. Fr. Barnabas Fravel, Priest of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will precede the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Maruk may be made to the St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
