Marjorie M. Lillpopp

1942-2012 DALTON Marjorie M. Lillpopp, 70, of Dalton died Saturday, December 1, 2012 at home following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Hartlepool, England on February 16, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Florence (Simpson) Murphy. She was educated at St. Cuthbert's Parish School.

Marjorie was employed for 18 years by Elder Services of Berkshire County where she served on its board of directors, retiring in 2003. Prior to that, she worked at the Siemens Corporation in Munich, Germany before emigrating to the United States in 1967 where she was employed in the household of Sir Brian Urquhart of New York City and Tyringham, Mass. She became a U.S. citizen in 1995.

Marjorie was a faithful communicant of St. Mary's Church in Cheshire and St. Agnes Church in Dalton where she taught religious education for many years and was recognized with the Pope Pius X Medal. She was a member of the Town of Dalton Council on Aging, the Friends of the Dalton Library, the Dalton Current Topics Club, and the Dalton Sunday Lunch program. She enjoyed playing bridge and spending time with her many caring friends.

Marjorie is survived by her husband of 43 years, Frederick C. Lillpopp, whom she married on August 23, 1969 at St. Mary's Church in Lee, her children the Reverend Michael C. Lillpopp of West Springfield, Karen M. Gleason and her husband Daniel of Suffield, Conn., and Peter F. Lillpopp of West Hartford, and her sisters Eileen Grieg and Margaret Flounders, both of Hartlepool, England.

She was predeceased by her brothers Peter, Derek, and Michael Murphy. She also leaves her beloved grandchildren, Catherine, Joseph, Peter, and Daniel Gleason, and several nieces and nephews.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Marjorie M. Lillpopp of Dalton who died December 1, 2012 will be held Thursday at 11:15 a.m. from the DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME in Dalton followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 12 Noon at St. Agnes Church, Dalton, celebrated by her son, the Rev. Michael C. Lillpopp. Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery in Dalton. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Dery-Foley Funeral Home.

Memorial Donations in memory of Marjorie may be made to St. Agnes Church or the Dalton Senior Center, both in care of the funeral home, 890 Main Street, Dalton, MA 01226.
