Mark Craig Viale

1958-2013 BELMONT Mark Craig Viale of Belmont, died suddenly on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 in St. Louis, Mo. Born on August 31, 1958 in Pittsfield, he was 55 years old. Beloved husband of Susan Black. Loving father of Nicole, Joseph, and Gabriella Viale. Cherished son of Marilyn and Craig Viale of Pittsfield, brother of Kim Peterson of Byfield, Diane Viale of Dallas, Texas, and Lisa Viale of Boston, and uncle to three nieces and three nephews. Mark was generous with his time and resources, was dearly loved, and will be missed by many friends. An outstanding hockey player at Pittsfield High School 1974-76, Mark captained teams that won three consecutive Western Massachusetts Championships. He went on to captain the Phillips Exeter hockey team during his post graduate year in 1976-77. Mark graduated from Bowdoin College in 1981, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degrees in Economics and Math. After graduation, he began his career at the Geary Corporation where he quickly rose to a Vice President position. Thereafter, he held executive leadership positions at KPMG, Stellent, Portal, and finally, Oracle Communications. Mark's career led him to exciting international assignments, often joined by his family, to various locations including Holland, Florence, and Sydney, Australia. Mark most loved spending time with his family, whether coaching or cheering his kids in sports, encouraging and guiding them, or just being their Dad. He enjoyed family vacations as well as family time on Cape Cod and in the Berkshires. His other passions were golf, clamming, and cooking. He was an avid sports fan with his favorites being the Boston sports teams, Notre Dame Football, and Duke Basketball. He loved children; they loved him, and he was a wonderful father and role model. FUNERAL NOTICE: Visiting hours at St. Joseph's Church, 124 Common Street, Belmont on Monday, Sept. 16, 2013 from 4 to 8 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph's Church, 124 Common Street, Belmont on Tuesday, September 17 at 11 a.m.. Reception to follow at the Church. Burial will be private. In addition, there will be a celebration of Mark's life at St. Charles Church in Pittsfield, MA on Friday, September 20, 2013 at 10 a.m. A reception for friends and family will follow at the Berkshire Hills Country Club from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Donations may be made in his memory to Friends of Belmont Football care of Rick Jones, 26 Woodfall Road, Belmont, MA 02478 and to The Boys and Girls Club of Pittsfield, 16 Melville Street, Pittsfield, MA 01201.
