Marlene Hammond

1940 - 2013 PITTSFIELD Marlene W. Hammond, 73, of 30 Beacon Ave., passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 13, 2013, at Hillcrest Commons after a long illness.

Born on May 22, 1940, daughter of the late Henry Ketchum and Olive "Elizabeth" (Wheeler) Ketchum, she grew up in Pittsfield and was a 1958 graduate of Pittsfield High School.

Marlene was last employed at Wal-Mart as a cashier. Prior to that, she was employed for 15 years at Eaton Paper Company.

Her husband, of Ronald Francis Hammond, whom she married Nov. 23, 1957, died May 21, 2013. She was predeceased by her dear son, Ronald F. Hammond, Jr., who died Jan. 10, 2003.

She is survived by a grandson, Lucas Hammond of Adams; her loving family members and many friends.

She was the sister of the late Gertrude Baker, Evelyn Streeter, Gerald Ketchum and Henry Ketchum.

Oh Auntie, who would have thought years ago that our lives would have taken the turns that they did? I loved you and uncle and I take comfort in believing that uncle is playing some good old time county/western music and you guys are enjoying a nice game of chinese checkers. Win one for me! I love you.

Lucas, it is with great sadness and tears that I am having to write in your Grandmothers Guest Book. I knew your father and grandfather for many years as well. You were so fortunate to have been born into such a loving family. For both of your Grandparents you were the light in their eyes after your father passed on. Your Grandparents were the best of the best and they helped me out in so many ways, too many to mention. I love your grandmother as if she were my own mother. Remember all of the stuff she and your grandfather taught you as you were growing and you will be able to and accomplish and attain anything in life you want too. Your grandmother was a special lady. Hold on tightly to the memories and keep her alive in your heart. Marlene is Walking in the Sunlight of the Spirit. Rest in peace my dear friend. I love you and I will miss you. I will keep you, Lucas, and the Ketchum families in my thoughts and prayers.

I knew the Hammond Family very well and was a very good friend to Skip Hammond her son. they were a loving , generous family who loved their grand son with all of their heart . Lucas if you read this son, stay strong for their sake and always remember that the three of them loved you very, very much and you are a blessing to them.
