1926-2013 DALTON Mary Bunton left for her heavenly home on May 22, 2013 from Tidewell Hospice in Bradenton, Fla. She was 87.
She was born January 4, 1926 in Dalton, the eighth and last child of Cesarie and Palma Contenta.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Peter and Charles Contenta, and her sisters Louise Savery, Josephine Mauro and Ann Avalle and her former husband, Charles A Smith.
Mary is survived by her beloved husband of 36 years, Charles Bunton; sister, Frances Fields of Bradenton; her sons, Charles Smith (Carol) of Bradenton, James Smith (Joan) of North Adams, Ricci Smith (Shelly) of Shelburne, and daughter by marriage, Debra Anderson of Wasilla, Alaska; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was a graduate of Dalton High School in Mass. and the New York School of Floral Design. She did advanced studies of Oriental Design in Japan.
Mary was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Bradenton, the Eastern Star, and the Italian American Club.
She was the owner of Lake View Florist in Dalton, Mass. for 25 years. After moving to Florida she opened The Nautilus in Sarasota in 1972 and Miracles of the Sea in Bradenton in 1979 until her illness in 1999.
Mary was a creative artist. She enjoyed oil painting. But most of all she devoted her amazing artistic ability to making people happy by creating unique personalized floral and shell arrangements for special events including weddings, parties and funerals. She could take any object and make it into a thing of beauty.
No service is planned at this time. Arrangements are being made by Toale Brother's Funeral Home and Crematory in Bradenton for internment in Dalton.
