Mary Patricia "Pat" (O'Brien) Cairns

1925 - 2015 Mary Patricia "Pat" (O'Brien) Cairns, 90 years old, formerly of 8180 Woodland Dr. Myrtle Beach SC, passed away on Monday September 28th at the Prince George Health Care Center in Georgetown SC. after suffering from Alzheimer's disease. Pat was born in Pittsfield Ma. on March 17th, 1925 to John G. O'Brien and Eva M. (Gregoire) O'Brien. She is survived by her younger brother, J. Gregory O'Brien of Pittsfield, her 3 children, Elaine Barbara Grandbois, David Brian Calebaugh, and Janice Lynn Darby, her 9 grandchildren, 11 great?grandchildren and 1 great?great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur (Bud) Cairns also from Myrtle Beach, SC. Pat graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1943. She also graduated from Berkshire Community College and also attended North Adams State University. She worked at many jobs during her years living in Pittsfield including various secretary jobs, writing in various forms including a weekly column in the Berkshire Eagle called Private Line and writing jingles for WBRK radio station. Pat loved reading, listening to all types of music, and played multiple instruments. Her greatest passion though was her love of writing and was involved in The Berkshire Poets Workshop and also as a previous President of the Berkshire county chapter of the American Penwomen's Association. She was a woman with a strong testimony of God, Christ, the power of prayer, and life after death. Those of us who called her sister, mother, grandmother, and friend will continue to tell her stories and miss her until we meet again.
