Obituary Condolences

Mary Dorothy Plunkett "Dede"1918 - 2011 LENOX Mary Dorothy "Dede" Plunkett, 93, a longtime resident of Hamden, CT, peacefully passed away on Dec. 27, 2011, in Lenox. She lived a long and happy life. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1918, she met her future husband, Jack Plunkett, in Red Lodge, MT. Mary Dorothy spent her summers during the 1930s at the Princeton Geological Camp in Red Lodge where her father, a professor of Geology, taught. Mary Dorothy attended the University of Cincinnati and Barnard College from which she graduated in 1943. Mary Dorothy and Jack married in 1943 and moved to New Haven, CT in 1947 for Jack's residency in psychiatry at Yale. Mary Dorothy raised five children in Hamden, CT and created a much loved summer home in Forest City, Maine. After Jack died in 1995, she moved first to Santa Fe, NM to be near her daughter, Kathleen, before settling in Lenox in 2002 to be near her daughter, Jude, and son, Tom. Mary Dorothy was a warm, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt whose optimistic embrace of life earned her the nickname "Mary Sunshine" from her children. When she sat amidst her family at gatherings, she would look around and sum up her feelings by saying "My cup runneth over." She is survived by her five children, Jude, Jamie, Kathleen, Tom and Susan; her daughter-in-law Marcy; her 12 grandchildren; and her five great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed and long remembered.
