Sister Mary Dorothy Durett, SSJ

1918 - 2014 HOLYOKE Sister Mary Dorothy Durett, (Brenda), 96, beloved member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield died in Mont Marie Health Care Center, Holyoke on October 29, 2014. She was born in Burlington, Vt., daughter of Coral and Melvina (LeClair) Durett. Sister Mary Dorothy entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield in 1937 from St. Joseph Parish, Pittsfield. She graduated from St. Joseph High School, Pittsfield and earned B.A. and M.A. degrees from the College of Our Lady of the Elms, Chicopee. In the Diocese of Worcester, Sr. Mary Dorothy taught in St. Mary School, Milford and St. Ann School, Worcester. From 1951 to 1980 she taught at St. Joseph High School, Pittsfield. Upon retiring from teaching she became a pastoral minister in St. Joseph Parish, Pittsfield, where she served until 2000. In addition to her Sisters in community, she is survived by several cousins, grandnieces and their families. She was predeceased by her sister, Dorothy May Test. FUNERAL NOTICE: The wake will take place at Mont Marie, Holyoke on Nov. 4, from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. with a prayer service at 10:00 a.m. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be in Mont Marie Chapel at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Mont Marie Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph, 577 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104. Arrangements entrusted to the SAMPSON FAMILY CHAPELS.
