Mary E. Grunow

1934 - 2013 PITTSFIELD Mary Elizabeth Grunow, 78, formerly of Richmond, who later made her home with her son, daughter-in-law, and grandsons at 68 Winesap Road, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2013, at Mount Greylock Extended Care where she had resided since June 30.

Born in Readsboro, Vt., on Dec. 23, 1934, the daughter of Ronald and Inez Niles Hein, she was a 1952 graduate of Drury High School and a 1957 graduate of the Henry W. Bishop Memorial School of Nursing in Pittsfield.

Mrs. Grunow was a Registered Nurse at North Adams Regional Hospital for seven years and was employed as a Registered Nurse at Berkshire Medical Center for 33 years, many of which were on the mother baby unit. She retired in 1997 but continued to work on call until 2001.

Mrs. Grunow cherished family life. She was very proud of her grandsons and their accomplishments. She enjoyed traveling and cruises with her late husband. Mary also enjoyed spending time with her many friends, going out to lunch and shopping.She was an avid Red Sox fan and was a big supporter of both her grandsons' athletic teams.

Her husband, Robert W. Grunow, died April 18, 2001.

Mrs. Grunow is survived by her son, Joseph R. Carusotto, and his wife, Michele, and two grandsons, David J. Carusotto and Alex J. Carusotto all of Pittsfield; a brother, William A. Hein; a niece, Natalie Clifton; a nephew, Michael Hein, all of Adams; and the family dog, Abbey.

She was predeceased by her former husband, Salvatore Carusotto.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Mary Elizabeth Grunow will be Wednesday, July 24, at 11 a.m. at DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield with the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor of St. Charles Church, officiating. There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
