Mary V. Hagadorn

1930 - 2016 Mrs. Mary V. Higgins Hagadorn, age 85, of 50 King St. Pittsfield, died Thursday morning at her home following a long illness. She was born in Pittsfield, June 25, 1930, the daughter of the late William F. and Margaret Campion Higgins. She was educated in the local schools and became employed initially as a housekeeper in the hospitality industry. She later became employed at the Berkshire Medical Center as the supervisor of linens in the hospital laundry department. Mary retired in 1996 with 18 years of service. She attended St. Joseph's Church and loved to travel with her family , specifically to the ocean and the beaches in Maine, Rhode Island and Connecticut. Mary loved the outdoors and enjoyed hiking with her grand- daughters. Known as being quite adventurous, she and her late sister, Dorothy Tierney riding horseback while well into her 50's . An artist and photographer, she loved to produce pencil drawings. In addition to being an avid reader, Mary and her late husband, Donald, loved listening to the Big Band sound as well as listening to Frank Sinatra. Most precious to her was just simply spending time with her family. She and her husband of 37 years, Donald P. Hagadorn, were married July 9, 1961 . He died Oct. 4, 1998. She is survived by her two daughters, Lynne M. Hornyak and Kelly A. Hagadorn, both of Pittsfield. She was the 'Proud Gram' her two granddaughters, Cheryl L. Hornyak and Michaela S. Hornyak, both of Pittsfield . She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her siblings, William Higgins, Margaret Fresia, Dorothy Tierney and Thomas Higgins. FUNERAL NOTICE: Hagadorn, Mary V. Higgins, age 85, of Pittsfield, died May 26th. Calling hours at the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME will be FRIDAY from 4 to 7. Funeral services will be held SATURDAY morning at 9:30 am at the funeral HOME WITH THE Rev. Msgr. Michael A. Shershanovich , pastor of St. Joseph's Church, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Soldier On in care of the funeral home.
