Mary E. Johnston 1922-2012 Mary E. Johnston 90, passed away peacefully on Sunday February 12, 2012. She was born on January 4, 1922, to Elizabeth and John Johnson of Mill River, Mass. Mary had a career at Royal Typewriter, Pratt and Whitney and the State of Connecticut Library. Mary believed in education and spent most of her life taking classes at night after working full time. Her greatest accomplishment was receiving her associate's degree in Business when she was 70 years old. Mary leaves her beloved sister Margaret (Dolly) Dawood, brother John (Andrew) Johnston, niece Betty Balkan and her husband Mark, nephew Ed Dawood and partner Frank Kaspar, great niece Katie Firth and her husband Justin, sister-in-law Helen Johnston and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves her best friend Mary Law of Manchester, Conn. Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her brothers William, Edward, Francis (Barney), Robert (Bud), and Richard (Dick). FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Mary E. Johnston who died February 12, will be held on Friday February 24, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 12 p.m. at Our Lady of the Valley Church, Sheffield, with the Reverend Bruce N. Teague pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Mill River Cemetery. Family will receive friends at a calling hour preceding the funeral from 10:30 to 11:30 at BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME. The family would like to thank Vernon Manor for excellent care and support given to Mary from the nurses and staff. Also many heartfelt thanks to caregivers, De LeGault, Darla Rarig, Maddy Hernborg, and Robbie Paterson and Mimsie. "Aunts" as she was affectionately called by most, will be dearly missed.
