1916 - 2015 PITTSFIELD Mrs. Mary F. Killeen Markie, age 99, formerly of 731 West St., died Tuesday morning at Mt. Carmel Care Center in Lenox. She was born in Pittsfield, Jan. 2, 1916, the daughter of the late Peter J. and Bridget Shields Killeen. She attended the local elementary schools and was a 1933 graduate of St. Joseph's High School. Continuing her education, she graduated from Henry W. Bishop School of Nursing at the former House of Mercy where she earned her registered nursing certification in 1936. She began her career there and did both private duty and staff nursing. Mrs. Markie married her husband, Stanley J. Markie on Sept. 7, 1946 and moved to Huntington, Long Island where she resided and raised her family. While there, she continued nursing and later worked as an x-ray technician. They returned to Pittsfield upon their retirement in 1976. She was a communicant of St. Mark's Church and a member of its Rosary Sodality. She is survived by her two sons, Michael J. Markie and his wife, Nancy, of Brentwood, Tenn. and Peter J. Markie and his wife, Kathleen, of Columbia, Miss., four grandchildren John, Mary Kate, Robert and Elizabeth and one great-grandchild, James Michael. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Regina V. Killeen as well as several nieces and nephews, including her niece, Nancy A. Killeen and her another niece, Mary T. Killeen. She was predeceased by her brothers, James, John and Raymond Killeen. FUNERAL NOTICE: Markie Mary F., age 99, died Tuesday, May 5, 2015. The family will receive friends beginning FRIDAY morning at 8:30 am at the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME. Funeral services will follow beginning at 9:15 am from the funeral home followed with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 am with the Rev. John C. Salatino, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the St. Mark's Church Food Pantry in care of the funeral home.
