Mary McNulty Heap Obituary
Mary McNulty Heap

Mary McNulty Heap, 96, a long-time resident of Hungry Hill, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 7, at the East Longmeadow Skilled Nursing Facility, surrounded by her family. She was raised in Adams, MA before becoming a Hungry Hill resident following WWII. Mary was predeceased by her parents Thomas J. and Agnes (Raidy) McNulty and her cherished husband of 73 years, Col. Harold Alston Heap, Sr. She was a former communicant of the former Our Lady of Hope Church and current at Sacred Heart Church. She was proud to have graduated from Bliss Business College in North Adams. She worked in the Springfield Public School system and Montessori school. Mary enjoyed reminiscing about her meeting "Hal", her lifetime love in junior high school and how he helped her with her homework, together peddling papers, and delivering mashed potatoes to her father at lunchtime. She lived for her family and always put them first. Our strong Irish Mary, who we wished could have lived forever, finally gave up her fight knowing that Hal was patiently waiting for her for the past 14 years. She will forever be watching over her family, friends, and neighbors, all considered family to her. All who knew Mary will feel her loss has changed the world forever. Mary was predeceased by her siblings, Alice McNulty Francis (Robert), Margaret "Margie" McNulty Gebauer (Howard), Timothy McNulty (Doris) and her brother-in-law, Calvin "Cal" Joseph Heap his wife, Frances McLaren Heap who is also her surviving distant cousin of Old Lyme, CT. She will be missed by her children, Margaret Lieber (Michael) of Newton, Harold Alston "Pete" Heap, Jr. (Sandra) of Southwick, Thomas Heap (Brenda) of Ludlow, Attorney Gerald Heap of Springfield, and Robert Heap (Tricia) of Longmeadow. Mary will also be missed by her six adored grandchildren, Joanne Mary Heap of Longmeadow, Dr. Kathryn Heap Lieber-Berman (Seth) of Denver, CO., Daniel Heap (Jodi) of Maplewood, NJ., Matthew Lieber (Ellen) of Brooklyn, NY., Moira Heap (Fiance Christopher Barden) of Hampden, and Elizabeth Heap of Brookline, her seven great-grandchildren, Thomas Alston Heap, Rosabella Heap, Max Lieber, Liviana Heap, Lillian Lieber, Wynn Alston Berman, and Callie Berman, MANY nieces and nephews, and her medical caregivers who she considers her special grand-daughters, Jackie Beaulieu, Laurie Heffner and Cindy Miller, RN.
