Mary "Liz" Phelps

1923 - 2014 PITTSFIELD Mrs. Mary E. "Liz" Phelps, 91, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter and son-in- law, Charis and King Keeler, surrounded by her family on Saturday evening, Oct. 11. Born in Williamsville, N.Y. on Aug. 8, 1923 the daughter of William A. and Florence Kelsch Minderler. She graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in Buffalo, N.Y. Mrs. Phelps moved to the area at a young age and worked alongside her husband on Secum Brook dairy farm. She later went to work at Sheaffer Eaton where she worked as a Cost Accounting Supervisor until her retirement in 1985. She was predeceased by her husband, Douglas H. Phelps whom she married on Nov. 7, 1942. He died on Aug. 4, 1985. She is survived by her daughter, Lynne A. Cota; and her daughter, Charis M. Keeler, and her husband, King; a brother, Robert A. Minderler; four grandchildren, Tracey L. Butler and her husband, Allan, James A. Cota and his wife, Sharon, G. Douglas Middlebrook, and William D. Middlebrook and his wife, Lisa; six great-grandchildren, A. Craig Butler, Jr. and Nathaniel J. Butler, Kristina and Patrick Middlebrook, of Breckenridge, Colo., and Riley and Lucas Middlebrook of Powers, Ore.; and one great-great-granddaughter, Abagail Butler. She was predeceased by her siblings, William A. Minderler, Jr., Martha Theurer, and James A. Minderler. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be Thursday, Oct. 16, at 9 a.m. from the DWYER FUNERAL HOME, 776 North St., Pittsfield, with a Liturgy of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church, celebrated by the Rev. A. Peter Gregory, pastor. Burial will follow in Southlawn Cemetery, Williamstown. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday, Oct. 15, from 4 - 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, friends may make donations to the Athol, MA Fire and Rescue Department, the Lanesborough Volunteer Fire Department, or the Lanesborough Police Association in care of the Dwyer Funeral Home in her memory.
