1914 - 2016 ADAMS, MA Mary P. Pikul, 101, formerly of 26 Richmond Lane passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at the Sweet Brook Care Center in Williamstown. Mary was born in Mountain Mills, VT on May 19, 1914, the daughter of the late Dominik and Michalina Piaseczna Gorczakowski. At the age of four her family moved to a farm on the North Hill of Readsboro, VT where she received her education in a one room school house. At the age of sixteen Mary left the farm and worked as a domestic for many years. Mary also was employed with the former Signet Mail Order Co., and the former Waverly Fabrics in Adams for several years, retiring in 1984. She was a long time communicant of the former St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Adams. Mary was a loving mother and grandmother. She was at home in the outdoors and was especially fond of brook trout fishing on the streams of the Berkshires. She was an avid gardener and eagerly hunted wild mushrooms and blue berries. Her children and grandchildren felt that Grammy Mary's blueberry pies and cooking were the best. Mary and her husband enjoyed traveling to the Pacific NW, Montana and South Dakota to visit with their son Joseph. Her husband Joseph L. Pikul, whom she married on September 28, 1942, died February 25, 2003. She is survived by a son, Joseph L. Pikul Jr. of Brookings, SD, nine grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Judith L. Liebenow, a son, Francis V. Pikul, a sister, Frances Gordon, two brothers, Stanley and Joseph Gorczakowski. FUNERAL SERVICE: Services and burial in Bellevue Cemetery in Adams will be at a later date to be announced. Donations in her memory can be made to the St. John Paul II Food Pantry in care of the TROTTIER PRINGLE FUNERAL HOME, 6 Summer St., Adams, MA. 01220, who is in charge of arrangements.
