Mary Brenda Zauls

1939 - 2013 NORTH ADAMS Mary Brenda (Parisien) Zauls, 73, of Brewster, died Friday, June 7, 2013, at Hyannis Hospital.

She was born in North Adams on July 27, 1939, daughter of William A. and Helen (Gazzaniga) Parisien where they resided at their farm on the Mohawk Trail and later operated The Rainbow Motel at that location. She attended North Adams schools and graduated from the Drury High School. Mary graduated from North Adams State College in 1961 and received a Master's Degree in Special Education from Southern Connecticut State University.

Mary began her career teaching first and second grade in Athol and later taught in Williamstown and Adams. She lived in Vergennes, Vt., and later in New Fairfield, Conn., where she taught reading and literature at the Green Chimney School in Putnam Lake, N.Y., until her retirement.

After living in Marlboro for a few years, she moved to Brewster following her husband's retirement.

Mary enjoyed the arts, especially oil and acrylic painting and accordingly was a member of the Yarmouth Art Guild and the Monday Painters. She enjoyed the opera and was a member of the Opera New England of Cape Cod. She also enjoyed travel, especially her trips to Europe and Latvia. She loved life on Cape Cod which included long walks with her dog enjoying the natural beauty of the cape and shell fishing.

Survivors include her husband, Juris Zauls, whom she married on March 5, 1965; one son, Juris V. Zauls and his wife, Synnove, of Westport, Conn.; three grandchildren, Tristan, Gersemi, and Gustav; two sisters, Joan H. Parisien of Beverly, and Marcia A. Dagnoli and her husband, Donato, of Adams; one brother, William A. Parisien Jr. DDS and his wife, Ann, of Hadley, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her brother, Louis W. Parisien died July 17, 1955.

FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral for Mary Brenda Zauls will be Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at 11 a.m. at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Burial will be private. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m.
