GREENFIELD - Maryann Pretto Audette died peacefully May 12, 2012, at home, surrounded by family and friends, after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. She was 61 years old.
Maryann was a respected attorney, formerly in private practice in Greenfield, and most recently in Springfield for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. She was an artist, photographer, humanitarian, and an advocate for children's rights and services and for breast cancer research. For many years, she served on the board of Big Brothers-Big Sisters. She was an avid volunteer for the Franklin County Relay for Life and participated in and supported the Rays of Hope program for cancer survivors in Springfield and Greenfield. She was a long standing member of the Breast Cancer Support Group at Baystate Franklin Medical Center.
Maryann was born in Pittsfield, MA on May 27, 1950, to Florence and the late Lino Pretto. She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Joseph W. Audette, their son, Steven T. Audette, and foster daughter, Bindy Campbell and her husband Steve; her brother, John Pretto, and wife, Nancy, of Greenfield, and their daughters, Karina and Christina, and her brother Lino and wife Kaye, of Michigan. She leaves many in-laws, nieces and nephews, and close friends and associates, including her co-worker Anne Podolok, of Florence, MA and Jane Murray of Greenfield, her business partner in Two Friends' Silks.
She was predeceased by her sister, Barbara Millotte, and her brother, Richard Pretto.
FUNERAL NOTICE: Calling hours will be Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home, 87 Franklin St., Greenfield, MA. There are no formal services.
