EASTHAMPTON, MA CPO Max H. Desautelle, USN(ret), 78, passed away Monday, July 13, 2015 at Holyoke Soldiers' Home surrounded by his family. Born in Marquette, Michigan, son of the late Henry and Ruth (Vasseau) Desautelle, he entered the United States Navy in 1954 and gave over 20 years to the Submarine Service. He later retired from US Postal Service BMC/GMF in Springfield. He was a graduate of Holyoke Community College. An avid skier, sailing off Noank, CT from his sailboat "Lady ll" was his true passion, especially with his family onboard. He was a proud member of the Bay State West Chapter of Submarine Veterans, American Legion Dalton-Lavalle Post 224 and the Fleet Reserve Association. He leaves his wife of almost 54 years, Sheila (Furey) Desautelle, daughter, Karen Marie Desautelle of Glastonbury, CT, three sons and their families: James Desautelle of Suffield, CT, Paul and Ann-Marie Desautelle of Washington, MA, Timothy and Diane Desautelle of Framingham, MA seven grandchildren who were his pride and joy, also his brother, Russell Desautelle and his wife, Wonita of Smyrna, TN., sister-in-law, Margaret (Furey) Geraghty and her husband, Thomas, Bradenton, FL and numerous nieces an nephews. His family offers their profound gratitude to the staff of the Holyoke Soldiers' Home and the Holyoke Hospice VNA who loved and cared for Max over the past six years. Services will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are in care of Mitchell Funeral Home, Easthampton, MA.
