John "Mickey" McColgan
1927 - 2012
PITTSFIELD - John Girard McColgan, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away May 28, 2012, surrounded by his loving family.
He is survived by his wife, Angela; four children, daughter, Shawn (David) Barris of Connecticut, and sons, Scott (Melinda), Shane, and Lance (Sonja) McColgan, all of California; 13 grandchildren, Kimberly, Michael (Jordan) Barris, Kelsey, Jamie, Logan, Shane, Luke, Sydney, Parker, Charley, Jayden, Dani, Kaylie McColgan, and three great-grandchildren, Trevor, Peyton, and baby boy Barris on his way.
Mickey was born and raised in Pittsfield. After graduating from PHS in 1945, where he was a star football player, he joined the Navy. He served during World War II and the Korean War from 1945 - 1952. Upon returning from duty, he married his bride. They just celebrated 59 years together April 26, 2012. Mickey was a dedicated ironworker who loved his job. He made many strong friendships throughout his life and was known as a man made of steel. His retirement years were spent helping support and build local businesses in Hermosa and Manhattan Beach, Calif., with his sons. Sharks Cove Hermosa was Mickey's favorite 4 o'clock hotspot.
He touched the lives of all who knew him. To know him was to love him. A very caring and generous man, Mickey will be forever missed and will always remain in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a donor of your choice.
