1914 - 2013 PITTSFIELD Michael Calderella, 99, of 16 Walnut Street, died Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Lanesborough on May 8, 1914, a son of Achille and Giovina Cacciagrano Calderella, he was a graduate of Pittsfield High School.

Mr. Calderella was a purchaser for General Electric Company. He retired in 1979 with 42 years service.

He was a communicant of St. Mark Church.

Mr. Calderella took joy in making toys for his grandchildren. He enjoyed gardening and wine making. He was a Boston Red Sox fan who also enjoyed bowling and playing golf. In his younger years, he was a semi-pro football player and an amateur boxer.

Mr. Calderella's wife, the former Dorothy Chevrette, whom he married May 30, 1941, in Notre Dame Church, died Jan. 2, 2003.

Mr. Calderella is survived by two sons, Michael A. Calderella and his wife, Nuan, of Redondo Beach, Calif., and Peter J. Calderella of Pittsfield; two daughters, Donna M. Roraback of Phoenix, Ariz., and Karen M. Sanderson and her husband, Paul, of Coventry, Conn.; eight grandchildren, Michael C. Calderella, Nathan Calderella, Desiree Dorothy Calderella, Laurel Mons, Jack Hassan, Brian Sanderson, Gregory Sanderson, and Kevin Sanderson; four great- grandchildren, Shannon, Shawn, Kyle, and Connor; two great- grandchildren, Aiden and Elizabeth; several nieces and nephews, and two special neighbors, Ann Kerwood and Susan Polin.

He was predeceased by two granddaughters, Susan Calderella and Michelle Calderella; by four brothers, James, Joseph, Albert, and Patrick Calderella, and by three sisters, Mary DeNicola, Anna Jones, and Celia Chiachiaretto.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Michael Calderella will be Wednesday, May 29, at 8:45 a.m. from DERY FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mark Church, celebrated by the Rev. John C. Salatino, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the DERY FUNERAL HOME.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
