1940-2012 PITTSFIELD Michael K. Joyce, lifetime resident of Pittsfield, passed away Wednesday, December 26, 2012 after courageously making it home from Berkshire Medical Center to celebrate Christmas with his family.
Michael was born October 6, 1940 in Pittsfield, son of John and Eleanor Hynes Joyce. He graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1958 and was a Golden Knight alumnus of St. Michael's College in Winooski, Vt., graduating in 1962.
Michael married Judith Allen on October 10, 1963. He was preceded in death by Judy on December 16, 2006.
He had a fulfilling career in Finance at General Electric for many years and enjoyed his retirement golfing at Berkshire Hills Country Club.
The passion of Michael's life was singing. He served as a member and Director of The Berkshire Hillsmen, a barbershop chorus, for 50 years.
He also spent many years singing with his barbershop quartet Just Four Friends, The Oldies But Goodies Rock n' Roll Show, Sacred Heart's chorus and countless Pittsfield weddings and funerals where his beautiful voice touched lives at their most important moments.
He leaves his son, Mark Joyce and his daughter-in-law Meghan O'Donnell and two beautiful grandchildren, Evan and Sam, all of Richmond, Vt.; a twin brother Matthew Joyce of Cape Cod and his older brother John Joyce of North Reading, Mass.
A larger than life person, both literally and figuratively, Michael spent his entire life making the city of Pittsfield smile
