Michael P. Lyons 1954-2012 CHESHIRE Michael P. Lyons, 58, of 57 Church Street, Cheshire, died Friday, June 15, 2012, at his home. Born in North Adams on May 3, 1954, a son of Edward J. Lyons of Cheshire and the late Alice Flaherty Lyons, he was educated in Cheshire schools and was a 1972 graduate of Hoosac Valley High School. Mr. Lyons had been employed as a screen plant operator for Pfizer and Specialty Minerals in North Adams for over 33 years retiring in 2009 due to ill health. In his younger years, he worked at Whitney Farm, and in the late 1970s and early 1980s was a member of the Cheshire Police Department. He was a member of the Cheshire Baptist Church and had previously been a Communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Cheshire. He was a member of the Cheshire Fire Department as well as the Adams Ambulance Service and the North Adams Ambulance Service. Mr. Lyons was founder, president, and director of The Community Aids Prevention Task Force. He received a letter from President and Mrs. Clinton lauding his work in peer education. He was an avid bike rider and competed in many triathlon's and placed in the Josh Billings in the Iron Man Division. He enjoyed riding his Harley and taking trips to Maine and the ocean, as well as good food and friends. Mr. Lyons leaves his wife, the former Judy Phelps, whom he married October 28, 1978, in the Cheshire Baptist Church. Besides his wife, and his father's wife, Carol, he is survived a son, Sgt. Bryce Michael Lyons and his wife, Sgt. Jennifer L. Lyons, and their son, Jonathan, stationed at Hunter Army Air Base in Savannah, Georgia; two daughters, Corinne R. Lyons and her son, Dalton S. Bassette, of Cheshire, and Dalton's father; David J. Bassette of Adams, and Carly B. Lyons and her significant other, Shane Turner and their son, Dylan S. Stockwell, of Cheshire; three sisters, Lisa Girard and her husband, Wayne, of Cheshire; Laurie A. Walto and her husband, William, of Pittsfield, and Dawn L. Daniels and her husband, Richard, of Williamstown; his father- and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Phelps of Cheshire; as well as several stepbrothers and stepsisters, and many, many nieces and nephews; and his beloved pets, Harley, Black Jack, and Bella. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Michael P. Lyons will be held Friday, June 22, at 11 a.m., at Cheshire Baptist Church with Pastor Philip "Chip" Winnard officiating. Burial will follow in Cheshire Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Lyons may be made to the Lyon's Grandchildren Trust Fund to be established for his grandchildren; Jonathan, Dalton and Dylan in care of DERY-CHESHIRE FUNERAL HOME, P.O.
