Michael J. Shanahan Jr.

1931-2013 Mr. Michael J. Shanahan Jr., 81, formerly of 197 Montgomery Ave. Ext., passed away Saturday evening at Providence Care Center of Lenox. On the day of his passing, his room was filled with the love and support of his family as they said goodbye to their beloved Patriarch.

Born in Brooklyn, NY on October 23, 1931 the son of Michael Shanahan Sr. and Mary McCarthy Shanahan, he was a 1951 graduate of St. Joseph High School.

A family man at his core, he lived every day for his wife, children, siblings and friends. His smile will be missed by all who knew him.

He was predeceased by his wife, the former Marie St. James, whom he married on November 15, 1952. She died on July 28, 2012.

He is also survived by his six children, Kathy Begley of Pittsfield, Mary Canto and her husband Tom of Wilbraham, MA, Julie Ross and her husband Tim of Pittsfield, Ann Monti and her husband Al of Lenox, Michael J. Shanahan III of Hopkinton, MA and Kevin Shanahan of Pittsfield; Fourteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He is also survived by his two sisters, Sheila Sikora and Maureen Kelly.
