Michele R. Barnes

1965 - 2014 PITTSFIELD Michele R. (LaPier) Barnes, 48, of Ryan Road, Florence, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2014, at home with her loving family at her side, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Pittsfield on Aug. 21, 1965, she was the daughter of Mary Beth (Condron) LaPier and the late Howard F. LaPier. She was raised in Washington and educated in local schools, and was a 1983 graduate of Wahconah High School, and a 1984 graduate of the McCann School of Nursing. Michele had resided in Florence for 20 years. She had worked in health care since she was 15 years old, starting at the Maple View Nursing Home in Washington. Michele was a Licensed Practical Nurse working at several area nursing homes, including the Dalton Nursing Home, Calvin Coolidge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Linda Manor Extended Care Facility, the former Northampton Nursing Home, in Northampton, and most recently at the Springside Rehabilitation Center in Pittsfield. She had a knack for working with the elderly and would often help the residents on her off time. She loved her children, was an avid reader, loved dogs and was a big Red Sox fan, especially Jason Veritek. Besides her mother Mary Beth LaPier of Edna, Texas, Michele is survived by her husband, Tom Barnes; her children, Samantha M., Zachary T., and Brandon H. Barnes, all at home; her brother, James H. LaPier of Sheffield; her sister, Denise M. Arndt of Pasadena, Md.; her sisters-in-law, Mary Ann and Peggy Barnes of Northampton, and nieces and nephews. Besides her father, Howard L. LaPier, she was predeceased by her sister, Margaret M. LaPier. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Graveside Service for Michele will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Hancock Cemetery, Rt. 43 in Hancock. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the AHEARN FUNERAL HOME, 783 Bridge Rd., Northampton. Donations in Michele's memory may be made to the Barnes' Children Fund, c/o the Florence Savings Bank, 85 Main St., Florence, MA 01062.
