Milton R. Bass

CELEBRATION OF LIFE RICHMOND - A celebration of the life of Milton R. Bass will be held at 11 a.m., Sunday, November 23, at the Berkshire Community College theater, 1350 West St., Pittsfield, with a reception following in the theater lobby. Milton died at home on October 14, 2014. He was 91. A veteran of World War II, he served in Holland, France, Belgium and Germany, earning a Silver Star for gallantry in action. After the war, he resumed his college work at the University of Massachusetts, Smith College and Columbia University. In the early 1950s, he became a part-time employee of The Berkshire Eagle and quickly became full time as the newspaper's arts and entertainment editor, retiring in 1986. After retirement, he continued writing his column, which ran for 60 years, with the final one published on September 28. He is survived by his wife, Ruth, and their three adult children, Michael, Elissa and Amy.
