1926 - 2014 PITTSFIELD Milton Robert Sheltry, 87, formerly of Church Street, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014, at Mount Greylock Extended Care. Born in North Adams on Oct. 3, 1926, the son of Vernon and Stella Richards Sheltra, he was educated in Pittsfield schools and attended Pittsfield High School. A World War II veteran, Mr. Sheltry served 26 months with the United States Navy Seabees. Mr. Sheltry last worked in the mail room at Berkshire Life Insurance Company. Prior to that, he had been a driver for Fairdale Farms, Boyd's Market, and Henry V. Rabouin. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing, and NASCAR. Mr. Sheltry's wife, the former Elizabeth Ann Mara, whom he married Aug. 24, 1946, died Apr. 10, 2009. Mr. Sheltry is survived by two daughters, Elizabethann M. Tatarek and her husband, Michael, of Whitinsville, Mass., and Mary Sheltry of Pittsfield; four sons, Philip E. Sheltry of Sheffield, Milton R Sheltry, Jr., of Lawrence, Kan., Brian A. Sheltry Sr., and his wife, Dani, also of Lawrence, Kan., and Francis J. Sheltry of Pittsfield; six grandchildren and two great-grandsons; and a sister, Norma Hoag, of Hinsdale. He was predeceased by a son, Jackie Sheltry. FUNERAL NOTICE: Calling hours for Milton R. Sheltry will be held Monday, Aug. 25, 2014 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield. A graveside service will follow at 1:30 p.m., at the Hancock Cemetery (Main Street, Hancock). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
