Miriam Stein

PITTSFIELD Miriam Stein, 94, beloved mother of Eva Amuso, passed away on September 26, 2013.Born in Czechoslovakia to Klementina and Adolph Stein, Miriam was a survivor of Theresienstadt concentration camp. She and her late husband, Walter Stein, came to the United States in 1957 and eventually retired to Deerfield Beach, Fla. Miriam was devoted to her family; grandchildren, Ari Shapiro and Leslie Kaufman, Jenna Shapiro, and Deroy Peraza, and great-grandchildren, Isadora Shapiro and Luco Peraza of New York City. Known to many as "Gram," Miriam enjoyed travel and reading, and especially cooking her native Czechoslovakian dishes. Cooking was her passion and expression of love for her family and friends. She was predeceased by her longtime partner, William Bergman, and beloved son-in-law, Sam Amuso. The family wishes to acknowledge their deep gratitude to her loving and devoted caregivers, Nadine, Linda, Kim, Cathy, and Maria. FUNERAL NOTICE: Mrs. Stein's funeral will be held in Florida. The family will be receiving friends at Eva Amuso's home, 725 North State Road,Cheshire, on Sunday, September 29, from 2 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory can be made to HospiceCare in The Berkshires, Inc., or to the Cheshire Fire Department and First Responders, both in care of DERY-CHESHIRE FUNERAL HOME, P.O.
