1920 - 2015 ADAMS -- Muriel Bernadette (Bourdon) Phelps, 95, formerly of 4 Country Club Extension, Adams and a long-time resident of the town, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2015, at Williamstown Commons. Born in North Adams on August 10, 1920, she was a daughter of the late J. William Bourdon and Marie Louise (Bissaillon) Bourdon. She was a graduate of the former Notre Dame Elementary School, Notre Dame Commercial Course and Bliss Business College, all in North Adams. Mrs. Phelps was employed as a clerk at the Adams Free Library for many years, retiring in 1985. Prior to that she was a secretary in the Adams school system. Earlier, she worked at Norcross-Eldridge Paper Co. and at Sprague Electric Co., both in North Adams. She was an avid reader and card player, but most importantly, a loving mother and doting grandmother and great-grandmother. Her husband of 68 years, Nelson R. Phelps, passed away in September 2013. The couple were married on July 23, 1945, at Notre Dame du Sacre Coeur Church, North Adams. Mrs. Phelps was a communicant of the Parish of St. John Paul II and the former Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs Church, Adams, where she was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne Society. She leaves a daughter, Virginia P. Duval, and her husband, Gilbert, of Adams; a grandson, Jeremy N. Duval, his wife, Jennifer, and two great-grandchildren, Miles and Lara Duval, all of Malvern, PA; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Norman and Donald Bourdon, and two sisters, Doris Contois and Clarice Bourdon. Muriel's family wishes to express its gratitude to the entire staff of Williamstown Commons, with a particular thank you to the nursing staff of Unit 3 and the Dietary Unit, for their attentive care and friendship. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held on Monday, November 30th, at 9a.m. from the PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St. Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10a.m. in Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs Church, Adams, celebrated by the Rev. Steven Montesanti, Pastor of the Parish of St. John Paul II. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours are Sunday, Nov. 29th, from 4 to 7p.m. at the funeral home.
