1922 - 2015 WILLIAMSTOWN Mrs. Nadene Lenore (Foster) Lane, 93 of 14 Windflower Way, died Saturday, March 14, 2015 at her home. She was born in Indianapolis, IN on Feb. 2, 1922, daughter of Frederick A. Foster and Helen F. Liehr. Nadene's mother died when she was a young teenager and Nadene assumed the responsibility of helping her grandparents raise her younger siblings. She attended schools in Indianapolis and graduated from Arsenal Technical High School. When Nadene and her husband first came to the Berkshires after World War II, they were partners in the operation of the Old Fort Restaurant at Fort Massachusetts in North Adams. Nadene and her husband soon started a family and she ceased working at the restaurant in order to raise and nurture their young children. As her boys got older, Nadene returned to work at Sprague Electric Co and as a ma?tre d at the former Le Country Restaurant. She was last employed as a secretary in the English Department at Williams College until her retirement. She was a former member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Williamstown where she taught Sunday School. Nadene enjoyed golf and was a longtime member of Taconic Golf Course. She proudly displayed the certificate commemorating the hole-in-one she achieved in 1990. Nadene was fiercely independent, living in her own home and driving herself to appointments until her final moments. She also enjoyed reading and especially enjoyed spending time with her family. She was the widow of Robert Donald Lane who died on Dec. 2, 1996. They were married on Feb. 2, 1946. Survivors include four sons including, Dennis N. Lane and his wife, Kathleen of Dalton; Robert S. Lane of Paris, TN; Richard K. Lane and his wife, Debra of Shelburne, MA; and David A. Lane and his wife, Pamela. She also leaves a brother, Charles Foster, of Whittier, CA; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one brother and one sister. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral for Nadene Lane will be Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 11 a.m. at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Williamstown Community Chest, 7 Denison Park Drive, Williamstown, MA 01267.
