1946 - 2015 Mrs. Nancy A. Smith, 69, of Virginia Beach, VA and formerly of Pittsfield, MA, passed away on Friday, September 25, 2015 at the Sentara Heart Hospital in Norfolk, VA. Born in Pittsfield on March 22, 1946 the daughter of Clifton Bean and Mildred Porter she attended schools in Dalton and was a graduate of Wahconah Regional High School. Mrs. Smith worked in Customer Service for WorkFlowOne in Norfolk, VA until her retirement. She had previously worked for Country Curtains in Stockbridge, MA. While living in VA, Nancy was a member of her local Bible Study group, a volunteer at MAP in Virginia Beach and a Volunteer at the Sentara Ambulatory Center in Norfolk. She worked many years for the Virginia Beach Public Library system in the research department. She enjoyed gardening, exercising, her dogs and especially enjoyed gatherings with family and friends. Nancy is survived by her husband of 39 years, Jim Smith, whom she married on May 1, 1976. She also leaves her six children, Monica Santos (Gonzalo) of CT, Melissa Emerson-Greene (Ted) of VA, Matthew Emerson of VA, Mark Emerson (Rachel) of OH, Penny Day of MA and Jim Smith (Kim) of MA; two brothers, Warren Bean (Madeline) and Cliff Bean (Judy); grandchildren, Brittany Helton, Jacob Emerson, Demitryus Emerson, Emma Josephine Emerson-Greene, Christen Alexys Greene, Quinten Emerson, Deklan Emerson, Gracelyn Smith, Sydney-Rose Emerson and Janey-Lee Emerson; a great-grandson, Aiden Lee Styer and several beloved nieces and nephews. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Nancy A. Smith will be Friday, October 2, 2015 at 10 a.m. from the Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North St., Pittsfield, MA with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Church in Dalton celebrated by the Rev. Christopher Malatesta, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Thursday, October 1, 2015 from 4 to 7 p.m. If friends desire, donations may be made to the SPCA of Virginia Beach or the Union Mission Ministries of Virginia Beach, care of the Dwyer Funeral Home, in her memory.
