Nell R. MacKenzie

1931-2013 NEW MARLBOROUGH Nell Renette MacKenzie, 82, of Adsit Crosby Road in New Marlborough passed away on Monday, August 19, 2013 at her home. Born April 12, 1931 in Pittsfield, she was the daughter of Clarence and Mildred Thompson Northwood. She was a graduate of Huntington High School. Nell was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, teacher and friend. She worked as a paraprofessional for the Southern Berkshire Regional School District at the New Marlborough School from 1973 - 1994. She was the heart and soul of the family vegetable stand. She loved nature and tending to her garden but above all else Nell cherished spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Robert MacKenzie. The couple was married on February 10, 1951 in Worthington, MA. She is also survived by two sons Robert MacKenzie of Leadville, CO and Scott MacKenzie and his companion Scottie Mills of New Marlborough, MA, two daughters Gail MacKenzie and her husband Dana Miller of Stow, MA and Kathleen Loring and her husband Charles of New Marlborough, her sister Helena Procopio and her husband Anthony of Pittsfield, MA, along with three grandchildren MacKenzie and Michaela Loring and Brody Miller. She was predeceased by her sister Jean Till. Nell's outlook on life was an inspiration to all who knew her. She saw and brought out the best in everyone and everything. Her spirit lives on in all the lives she touched. FUNERAL NOTICE: A service celebrating the life of the late Nell R. MacKenzie will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Church of New Marlborough, 234 Norfolk Road, Southfield, MA, conducted by Lay Minister David Hastings. Burial will be at a later date. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 23rd from 4pm - 7pm at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington, MA.
