Nelson R. Harris

1933 - 2014 SAVOY Nelson Robert Harris, 81, of 138 Chapel Rd., Savoy, died early Friday morning, May 16, 2014, at Berkshire Medical Center. He was born in Adams on Jan. 10, 1933, son of the late Walden and Gladys Harwood Harris. He attended Savoy schools, and graduated from the former Adams High School with the Class of 1951. He also attended the University of Massachusetts-Amherst for 2 years. Mr. Harris worked as a lumberjack for most of his life, and had operated a logging company for many years. He also worked for the Town of Cummington DPW and the Henshaw Well Drilling Co., until returning to logging for several years. He had been a member of the West Cummington Congregational Church, and enjoyed creating machinery in his spare time. An accomplished writer, he was the author of "Folklore and Boylore," which chronicled his childhood adventures in Savoy, and also wrote a monthly column for the Savoy Newsletter. He is survived by his wife, Sandy Totter, whom he married on June 8, 2002; a daughter, Gail Harris-Burdick of Bangor, Maine; a stepson, Michael Donahue of Savoy; two stepdaughters, Meagheanne Donahue of Adams, and Emily Stockman of Plainfield; his son-in-law and business partner, Ty Stockman of Plainfield; his sister, Viola Decoigne of Adams; seven grandchildren, David Pratt, Diane Persson, Christine Pratt, Katelyn Errichetto, Henry Stockman, Mace Donahue and Morgan Donahue; five great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Savannah, Owen, Cody, and Aiden; his former wife, Norma Harris; his beloved dog, Spike, and several nieces, nephews, in-laws, and many friends. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 22, at 12 p.m. in the PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St. Adams. Burial will be at a later date at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hilltown Hose Company, 17 Center Rd. Savoy, MA 01256.
