Norman Barber

1925 - 2015 WILLIAMSTOWN Norman P. Barber, 90, of 1181 North Hoosac Rd., died at Williamstown Commons on July 30th, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born March 24, 1925, son of Lee H. And Katherine May Barber, Norman was raised and educated in Pownal, VT. He served in the U.S. Army and traveled throughout Europe in World War II. Upon returning from his army duty, he moved to Williamstown where he helped to build his lifetime residence. For 33 years, Norman worked at the former R.J. Widen Tannery in Blackington as a leather tanner. When the tannery closed, he started his second career in his fifties at Steinerfilm in Williamstown where he served as an evening supervisor, a job he loved so much that he didn't retire until the age of 80. He was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church in Williamstown where he held various positions including being the long-term head usher. He was also a 50 year member of the Free Masons. Norman's other love of his life was his family. He leaves his wife of 68 years, Eva King Barber of Williamstown, and his daughter, Linda Beaudreau and son-in-law, Thomas Beaudreau of Williamstown. He also leaves two granddaughters, Brooke Huszcza and her husband, Michael of Scotch Plains, N.J. and Aimee Rogers and her husband, Kevin of Winter Haven, Florida as well as five great-grandsons: Brendan Huszcza, Brian Huszcza, Patrick Huszcza, Kyle Rogers, and Nate Rogers. He was predeceased by two brothers, Morgan Barber and Ross Barber. He also leaves several nieces and nephews, including Nancy Copeland of Florida and his sister-in-law, Alice Barber of Florida.
