Patricia Brehm

Obituary Condolences

Patricia E. Brehm 1935 - 2012 PITTSFIELD Patricia Elizabeth Brehm, 77, local artist, died Thursday, June 28, 2012, after a long illness. Born in Harrisburg, Pa., on Jan. 20, 1935, daughter of career Naval officer Mark Weiser Brehm and Inrgrie Jarvie Brehm, she grew up as a "Navy Brat," living in many different locations during her father's service during World War II. The family eventually settled in southern California where Patricia, beginning in high school, began her lifelong passion for making art. Ms. Brehm moved to Massachusetts in 1971 with her then-husband Thomas Rolens and lived in The Berkshires from 1974 through the remainder of her life. An adept and original fine art painter and embroidery artist, Ms. Brehm also made jewelry (including her own beads), painted furniture, and quilts. She was a longtime member of the Sheffield Art League and her paintings were often exhibited locally, a number of which won awards for her surreal beauty. Ms. Brehm was also known for her wit and such idiosyncratic observations as: "you can't make a happening happen again." Ms. Brehm was a devoted mother and shared her creativity and love of the arts with her two children, Joy Byrd of Florence, Ore., and Mark Hanser of Boston. She is also survived by a sister, Denise Hall, of Everett, Wash., a niece, Beth Capoun of Lake Stevens, Wash., and a nephew, Christian Fastrup of New York City. Donations in Ms. Brehm's name may be made to HospiceCare in The Berkshires in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
