Paul E. Decker
1927-2014 SOUTH EGREMONT Paul E. Decker 87, of South Egremont died Monday April 28, 2014 at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on March 15, 1927 son of Donald and Anna Bradshaw Decker. Paul began his art education in high school at Brooklyn Tech and after serving in the Marines in World War II completed his education in New York City. Mr. Decker, a freelance commercial artist was a frequent exhibitor in the Northeast and has participated in numerous one man shows in Hartford, Boston and New York City. He won many watercolor awards and several of his works are in the permanent collection of the Berkshire Museum. His paintings can be seen on greeting cards and calendars throughout the United States, and he designed the original trail brochure for Butternut Basin ski area. Two of his water colors were purchased by the director of the Boston Symphony. Paul was a member of the Great Barrington Pistol Club for over 50 years and won many competitions and awards for his shooting. He was a member of the Connecticut Water Color Society and taught watercolor classes at Mount Everett in the adult education program. He is survived by his wife, Maryann Cappi Decker, whom he married on November 10, 1972, one daughter, Lee Watroba and husband Robert of Becket, one step son, Richard "Rick" Zamberletti and wife Susan of Housatonic, one step daughter, Michelle Gulotta and husband Anthony of Sheffield, his brother, Donald Decker and wife Virginia of N.Y., his sister, Lydia Javora and husband John of N.J., six grandchildren, Sean Watroba, Valerie Watroba, Matthew Zamberletti, Adam Zamberletti, Sarah Humes and Marianna Gulotta, two great granddaughters, Madison Humes and Taylor Humes, brother and sister in law, Joseph and Diane Cappi Tatro, many nieces and nephews and his beloved Westie "Ditto". Paul was predeceased by his sister Patricia Colling, his brother Gerard Decker, his daughter Theresa Marie Decker and former wife Patricia Murray Decker. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Memorial Mass for Paul E. Decker who died April 28 will be held on Monday May 5, at 10:00 AM at Saint Peter's Church with Reverend William P. Murphy pastor officiating. Burial will follow in St. Bridget's Cemetery.
