Paul G. Shafiroff

1941 - 2015 STOCKBRIDGE Paul G. Shafiroff of East St., Stockbridge, a long time Otis resident, passed away on June 8, 2015 at his home surrounded by his wife and children. Born on May 30, 1941 in Brooklyn, N.Y., he is the son of Dr. Benjamin G.P. Shafiroff and Edith Mae Pihlak. He graduated James Madison High School, and attended Mannes College of Music, Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, and the University of Massachusetts, receiving his Doctorate degree. In his early years, he trained race horses for his parents. In 1966, he was commissioned a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Infantry and discharged a Captain after serving as Operations Officer in the 94 USARCOM. He served as a police officer in Hartford, Conn. and Williamstown, Mass. He also worked for the Berkshire County Sheriff's Office. In 1974, he was appointed Director of Pupil Services for the Southern Berkshire Regional School District and retired as Supervising Principal for the Elementary Schools of Sheffield, New Marlboro, Monterey, Egremont, and Alford. Paul was a life-long accomplished classical pianist and composer. He was also an artist and author. Paul was married for 31 years to Jane Elizabeth Dierauer who passed away from cancer in 1995. He leaves his wife, Edith Sohl Lyman and five children, Mrs. Jodi (James) Pow of Lee, Mr. Braxton G.P. Shafiroff of Lee, Mrs. Stephanie (Christopher Gallagher) Shafiroff of Dalton, Mrs. Sima (Jorgen) Brich, of New Jersey; Mrs. Sarah Jane (Nate) Lin of Boston; four step-sons, Mr. Dale (Tonya) Lyman of Missouri, Mr. Darryl Lyman of Stockbridge, Mr. Douglas (Kathy) Lyman of Chicopee, and Daniel (Gail) Lyman of Maryland; and four brothers and five sisters, Mr. David (Carole) Shafiroff of New Jersey, Dr. Mark (Marci) Shafiroff of New York, Mr. Adam (Peggy) Shafiroff of New York, Miss Naomi Shafiroff of Lenoxdale, Ms. Martha Shafiroff of Virginia, Mrs. Laura (Al) DeVivo Cole of Florida, Mrs. Diana (John) Casalino of Delaware, and Mrs. Chia (Greg) Richardson of Virginia; and a sister-in-law, Jean Shafiroff. He also leaves his beloved grandchildren, Caitlin, James, Nick, & Elianna Pow, Carly & Kadin Shafiroff, Jake Harte & Quinn Gallagher, Tea & Martina Brich, and Logan & Lulu Lin as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Henry Shafiroff and his sister-in-law, Marsha Shafiroff. There are no calling hours and the burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, a bereavement scholarship in memory of Paul G. Shafiroff has been established through the Aurigan Scholarship Fund at Mt. Everett Regional School. Donations can be sent to Mt.
