Peter Thomas McGuire

1945 - 2013 PITTSFIELD Peter Thomas McGuire, 67, of Pittsfield, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2013, at his home.

Born in Great Barrington on Nov. 27, 1945, the son of Henry and Rena Coakley McGuire, he was raised in Pittsfield by Mr. and Mrs. Valenti. He was a graduate of St. Joseph High School and the Massachusetts Police Academy.

A Vietnam War veteran, Peter enlisted with the Navy on Oct. 15, 1963, served aboard the USS Cavalier, and did a 2 1/2 year tour of duty overseas. He was honorably discharged on Aug. 26, 1966.

He was a proud member of the Pittsfield Police Department for 32 years, serving as a detective for 29 years. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

In 2000, Peter became the proprietor of Bob's Country Kitchen in Lanesborough.

Peter is survived by his three beloved children, son, Michael McGuire and his wife, Amanda, of Ballston Spa, N.Y.; two daughters, Michelle McGuire of Pittsfield and Melissa McGuire of Los Angeles, Calif.; his devoted friend and former wife, Deborah McGuire of Pittsfield; his parents, Michael and Virginia Valenti of Pittsfield; brothers, Dan Valenti and his wife, Paula, of Stockbridge, Michael Valenti of Pittsfield, James McGuire of Boston and Gerald McGuire of Canaan, Conn.; sisters, Joan Hewins of Sheffield, Kathy McGuire of Sheffield, Maureen McGuire of Williamstown, and Susan McAlpine and her husband, Thomas, of Williamstown; his dog and little friend, Buddy, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

His brother, Henry "Micky" McGuire, and a sister, Charlene Anson, predeceased him.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Peter Thomas McGuire will be Monday, June 24, 2013, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m.,= at St. Charles Church celebrated by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Sunday, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the DERY FUNERAL HOME.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. McGuire may be made to the in care of the Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
