Philip A. Foster Obituary
RICHMOND- Philip A. Foster, 90, of Summit Road, passed away on Tuesday, November 8 following a brief illness.

Philip was born June 17, 1926 in Wellesley, MA, to Clifford A. and Ethel E. Foster. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943, serving in the Pacific on an LST as a Quartermaster 3rd Class, earning 5 medals and ribbons with three stars. Upon his discharge in 1946, he completed his graduation requirements for high school and attended the University of Massachusetts.

On February 28, 1948, he married the former Lucy A. Flagg at the Trinity Church in Boston, MA. Philip and Lucy raised their three children in Newton, MA, while he was employed in the banking and financial services industry. Following his retirement in 1986, Philip and Lucy moved Richmond, MA, to build a home on family land. Philip was active in numerous volunteer functions. Philip was a founding member and officer of the Richmond Land Trust; a board of director for the Richmond Performance Series; an associate for the Richmond Insurance Commission; Member and President of the Selectboard and acting Veterans Agent. In 1999 he was voted Citizen of the Year. He also served on numerous boards for the Richmond Congregational Church. As a volunteer usher for 25 years at Tanglewood, he was awarded the rank of VP Volunteer Emeritus.

Philip is survived by his wife Lucy Adams Foster of Richmond, MA, sons Richard F. Foster of Lenox, MA, Dean A. Foster of Tehachapi, CA, daughter Virginia F. Tingley of Red Bank, NJ; grandchildren Jacob Foster, Sanford Foster, Katie Tingley, Dustin Tingley, Madelyn Barley; and great grandchildren Adare Foster, Colton Barley, Dylan Tingley and Calvin Barley.

Phil was blessed to be part of the Richmond Community and Richmond Congregational Church. He was grateful to stay in his home with the assistance of Richmond Community Health (Emily Jarrett RN), Council on Aging (Dave Palardy), the loving care of HomeInstead Senior Care, friends and family; with HospiceCare in the Berkshires to help bring him home. He will be missed and well-remembered.

FUNERAL NOTICE- A celebration of life for Philip A. Foster will be held Friday, November 18, 2016, at 10:30AM at Richmond Congregational Church, St Rte. 41, Richmond, MA 01254. Reverend Janet McKinstry, pastor, officiating; organ celebration by Mark Kelso. There will be no calling hours and the burial will be private. A reception will follow the service in the fellowship hall of the Richmond Congregational Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Richmond Congregational Church Education Scholarship Fund, St. Rte. 41, Richmond, MA 01254.
