NORTH ADAMS -- Pierina Albareda, 93, of St. Joseph's Court, Apt. A-1, 85 Eagle St., died yesterday at her home.

Born in Levico, Province of Trento, Austria, on Aug. 3, 1911, daughter of the late Luigi and Anna Vettorazzi Moser, she came to the United States with her family at the age of 18 months. The family first settled in West Stockbridge and later resided in Wilmington, Vt., Readsboro, Vt., Richmond Furnace section of Richmond, the town of Florida and Williamstown. She was educated in the town of Florida and Williamstown schools.

She began her working career with North Adams Hospital until her marriage and resided in the Farnams section of Cheshire until 1936, when she moved to Lee. In 1940, she moved to Adams and lived there until 1987, when she moved to Williamstown. She had resided in North Adams since 1989.

Mrs. Albareda was employed for many years by the former Arnold Print Works in Adams and was last employed for seven years by the Waverly Fabrics division of Schumacher Corp. in Adams until her retirement in 1974.

After her retirement, she was employed on a part-time basis by Treet Cleaners and the former Wedding Bell Store on Main Street in North Adams.

She was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church of North Adams, where she volunteered for the church bazaar committee, and was a former longtime communicant of St. Thomas' Church of Adams.

Her husband, Azzo Albareda, whom she married on June 3, 1926, died Aug. 28, 1985.

She leaves two daughters, Rose Marie Gaspardi and Nancy Spaniol, both of North Adams; a brother, August "Al" Moser of Lee; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild.

She was predeceased by two sons in childbirth.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Pierina Albareda will take place Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004, at 9:30 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, CENTRAL CHAPELS, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 70 Marshall St., North Adams, with the Rev. Daniel J. O'Hear, pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling hours at the funeral home are Friday, Aug. 20, 2004, from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested for St. Anthony of Padua Church through the funeral home. Survivors include seven grandchildren, Frank Gaspardi, Bruce Gaspardi, Catherine Freedberg, Laurie Hooks, Donna Reed, Susan Alvarez, Michael Spaniol; six great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a brother-in-law, Fred Kurpiel, and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Predeceased by two sons at childbirth; sisters, Mary Ziemba, Rose Kurpiel; brother, Peter Moser, and one in infancy.
