Ralph M. Bell, Sr.

1915 - 2015 HINSDALE Ralph M. Bell Sr., 100, of 966 Middlefield Road, died Friday, April 3, 2015 at Sugar Hill in Dalton. Born in Middlefield on January 22, 1915, he was the son of the late Ralph and Eila Kelley Bell. He was educated in Middlefield schools and was a 1932 graduate of Chester High School. He then continued his education at Wentworth Institute where he graduated in 1935. Mr. Bell married his wife, the late Kathleen Carlon Bell in 1938. She died on August 28, 2001. A tool and mold maker for over 40 years, Mr. Bell worked as a manager of the General Electric Ordnance Tool Room and as a management consultant for Appalachian Engineering Inc. He retired in 1975. He was a member of Middlefield Congregational Church and a past member of the Pittsfield Motorcycle Club. He enjoyed riding Indian motorcycles and had rode until he was 89 years old. He also enjoyed traveling to his home in Florida and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He leaves his son; Ralph M. Bell Jr. and his wife, Olga of Hinsdale. Two grandchildren; Peter M. Bell and his wife, Jennifer and Jennifer K. Kersey. Four great-grandchildren; Joshua M. Bell, Rachel K. Bell, Nicholas L. Kersey and Vincent M. Kersey. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother; the late George L. Bell and by two sisters; Rosina Perez and Mary Warner. FUNERAL NOTICE: Calling hours for Ralph M. Bell Sr., 100, of Middlefield who died April 3, 2015 will be held Thursday evening from 4 to 7 p.m. at the DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME in Dalton. A graveside service will be held in Pinegrove Cemetery in Middlefield later in the spring. Memorial donations in memory of Mr. Bell may be made to the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Leeds, MA or to Middlefield Congregational Church both in care of the funeral home, 890 Main Street, Dalton, MA 01226.
