Ralph Pettograsso Obituary
Ralph A. Pettograsso

1932 2012 PITTSFIELD Ralph Angelo Pettograsso, 80, died unexpectedly on Thursday, December 27.

Ralph "Ray" was born to the late Joseph and Angela (DeNicola) Pettograsso in Mechanicville, N.Y., on July 12, 1932. He attended local schools, joining the Navy after high school, where he served his country with distinction.

Ralph married Cecilia Micklas and relocated to Pittsfield, spending several wonderful years raising five young children until her untimely death in 1968. Ralph then raised his children on his own and obtained a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, all while working full-time at GE Ordnance.

Ralph later met his 2nd wife, Daisy Meczywor, whom he married in 1974. They spent many wonderful years together traveling, until her long-term illness, during what he was devoted to being her sole caregiver. She predeceased him in 2011.

He loved the outdoors, reading, and traveling, but was most fond of sailing and was a member of the Beachwood Sailing Organization in Stockbridge, Mass., for many years, competing in regattas with his children as crew members. Ralph was an active communicant of St. Joseph's Church. He was a very generous, kindhearted, and humble man.

His heart of gold will be greatly missed by many. He is survived by his son, Ralph J. Pettograsso and his wife Michelle of Pittsfield; his daughters Susan Haas and her fiance, Joseph Quetti, both of East Falmouth; Carol Pettograsso (Snyder) of San Diego, Calif., Joanne Pettograsso and her fiance, Brian Bartini, both of Lee, and Maria Hassett of Pittsfield. He will be missed by his cherished grandchildren, Jaime Panetti and her husband Marc of Pittsfield; Justin, Bryce and Marianne Pettograsso; Lars Haas; Ashley, Rachel and Daren Snyder; Reese and Cecilia Dewey; and Evan and Nicholas Hassett. He will also be missed by his cherished greatgrandchildren Alexis Panetti and Brody Dewey. Ralph is also survived by a sister Angela Flowers of Clifton Park, N.Y., and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sister Ann Marie Gray.
