Raymond F. Carlson

1921 - 2016 Raymond F. Carlson, 94, of Lenox, died Friday morning at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in West Hartford, CT May 1, 1921, the son of Fritz and Edith Flavell Carlson, he was a graduate of West Hartford High School and later earned two Bachelor degrees, his first in Electrical Engineering and his second in Mathematics. He was a US Army veteran of WWII. A Cryptographer with the 17th Signal Service Co., he was stationed in the Middle Eastern Theater of Operations in Persia for much of that time and was honorably discharged after three and one half years of active duty with the rank of Sergeant on October 16, 1945. An electrical engineer, Mr. Carlson was employed throughout his career by General Electric Co. in Pittsfield in their Distribution Transformer Department. Mr. Carlson was a communicant of St. Ann's Church in Lenox. He enjoyed travelling, wood working, reading, gardening, and hiking. He is survived by his wife, Mary Pavelcak Carlson of Lenox whom he married September 9, 1950; one son, Raymond M. Carlson and his wife Christina of Port Washington, NY; three daughters, Patricia McCowan and her husband Richard of Princeton, MA, Irene Carlson of Ashland, MA, and Mary Beth Couch of Billerica, MA; one sister, Dorothy Vanturas of Rocky Hill, CT; and three grandchildren, Julie, Susanna, and Laura Carlson. FUNERAL SERVICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mr. Raymond F. Carlson of Lenox will be celebrated Monday, April 11th at 10 am at St. Ann's Church by the Rev. Monsignor John J. Bonzagni, Pastor. Burial will follow in St. Ann's Cemetery. There are no calling hours. The ROCHE FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.
