Obituary Condolences

Raymond Walter Hescock 1935-2011 PITTSFIELD Raymond Walter Hescock, 76, of 20 Acorn Street, Pittsfield, died Tuesday, December 13, 2011, at Berkshire Medical Center, of complications resulting from a long illness. Born in Readsboro, Vt., on November 24, 1935, a son of Earl Claude and Elizabeth Frances Teft Hescock, he attended school in North Adams and began his working life there in one of the mills. For the past 25 years, Mr. Hescock was the devoted caretaker at Knesset Israel Synagogue and Temple Anshe Amunim. Prior to that, he had worked at the former Adams Supermarket on Dalton Avenue and for Peter Francese and Son construction company. Ray had a wide and diverse community of people who loved and respected him, and a large family, many friends, and pockets of associates from many jobs and passions to which Ray always gave his best efforts as well as his famous humor. Ray and Lynette met square dancing. Ray's ease and style with country and Swing dance won admiration, as well as Lynette's heart. A real handyman to many, as well as in his own homes, Ray also enjoyed snowplowing in the winter, and gardening and feeding the birds in his backyard in the summer. A recent pleasure was playing with the family dog, Throttle. Mr. Hescock was a member of the Pittsfield Sportsmen's Club and the Berkshire Hills Country Club. An avid golfer, who began as a caddy, he enjoyed playing in many tournaments throughout Berkshire County, including the Pewter Cup Classic, and the Invitational Singles at Berkshire Hills. He was proud to have played in the Little Brown Jug Tournament at Wahconah Country Club from 1966, its first year, through the next 44 years, ending with 2010, regretfully missing the 45th year because of health problems. He was a divisional Jug winner with his son, Jack, in 2008. Mr. Hescock is survived by his wife, Lynette B. Cornwell, whom he married May 1, 2005. He is also survived by four sons, Keith Hescock of Annandale, Va., Jeffrey Hescock of Pittsfield, John "Jack" Hescock of Pittsfield, and Michael Hescock of Jacksonville, N.C., two daughters, Donna Walz of Pittsfield and Kellie Hescock of Pittsfield; a brother, Richard Hescock of Laughlin, Nevada; two sisters, Lorraine Sawtelle of Dalton and Frances Bonyea of Pittsfield; grandchildren, Keith Hescock, Lisa Mlynarczyk, Jennifer Walz, Christopher Walz, Jake Hescock, Luke Hescock, Jonah Javeri Hescock, and Xander Valois, one great grandson, Gabriel Mlynarczyk; as well as many nieces, nephews, and a dear brother-in-law, Walter Sheridan, of Pittsfield. He was pre-deceased by a brother, John Hescock and a sister, Louise Lecours. FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service for Raymond W. Hescock will be held Sunday, December 18, at 11 a.m., at Temple Anshe Amunim. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Hescock may be made to The Leukemia-Lymphoma Society or to Temple Anshe Amnim where it will go to honor Ray through the building and grounds fund. The DERY FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.
