Raymond Kavey Sr.

1928 - 2014 PITTSFIELD Mr. Raymond B. Kavey Sr., 85, of 125 Crane Ave., passed away Sunday, Oct. 12, at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Pittsfield on Nov. 16, 1928, the son of Martin J. and Emily Brombach Kavey, he was a 1946 graduate of St. Joseph High School. He continued his education at the former North Adams State College where he earned a Master's Degree in Education. Mr. Kavey was a US Army Veteran of World War II. He worked for 37 years in the Lee public school system as a principal and teacher. Ray was a lifelong resident of Pittsfield and a Communicant of St. Charles Church. He was predeceased by his wife Marion, whom he married on May 5, 1951. She died on Nov. 30, 2012. He is survived by his four children, Raymond B. Kavey Jr., Thomas W. Kavey, William M. Kavey and Peter F. Kavey; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, James R. Kavey who passed away earlier this year on June 13, 2014. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be Thursday, Oct. 16, at 6:30 p.m. at the DWYER FUNERAL HOME, 776 North St., Pittsfield with the Rev. A. Peter Gregory, pastor of St. Charles Church, officiating. Burial with full military honors will be private. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Thursday evening, prior to the service from 4 - 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Charles Church, care of the Dwyer Funeral Home, in his memory.
