Richard Frank Giroux

1929-2013 ADAMS Mr. Richard Frank Giroux, 84, of 3 Orchard St., Adams, died on Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born in Adams on January 27, 1929, a son of the late Samuel and Anna (Kustra) Giroux. He attended schools in Adams.

Mr. Giroux was a Veteran of World War II and the Korean War, having served with the United States Navy from 1946 until receiving his Honorable Discharge in 1952.

Mr. Giroux worked for the Adams Police Department for 25 years starting as a patrolman in 1962 and retiring as a Captain in 1987. Earlier he had worked for the former Arnold Print Works in Adams and had been the owner and operator of the former Dick?s Variety on Friend St in Adams.

He was a communicant of the Parish of Blessed John Paul, Adams. He was a member and past treasurer of Adams Post 160 American Legion and was also a member of its honor guard for many years. He was also a member of the Burnett Bednarz Post 1995 Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Massachusetts Police Association, the National Rifle Association, the Adams Lodge of Elks, and the Adams Lions Club, who honored him as Lion of the Year for 2007-2008.

His wife, the former Joan Marie Herzog, whom he married on January 13, 1951, died on January 23, 1996.

He is survived by, one son, Alan F. Giroux and his wife Amy of Adams; one daughter, Laurie Crouse and her husband Robert of Adams; five grandchildren, Nicole Landy and her husband James of Williamstown, Robert Crouse, Jr. and his wife Rachel of Worcester, and Brandon Crouse, Hannah Giroux and Evan Giroux, all of Adams; one great grandson, Grant Richard Landy of Williamstown and one niece and two nephews. He also leaves his beloved companion of many years, Leona Meczywor of Adams.

FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be on Monday, June 10 at 9:00AM from the PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00AM in the Parish Church of Blessed John Paul, McKinley Square, Adams.

Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams.

Calling hours are Sunday from 1:00PM to 4:00PM at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to the Adams Post 160 American Legion Honor Guard, 160 Forest Park Ave. Adams, MA 01220.
